Crime pays for Somalia's pirates - 10 Oct 2008
BackSomali pirates are demanding an $8m ransom for the release of a Ukrainian ship they are holding off the coast of their country's northern coast. The pirates appear to rule the seas around Somalia with impunity, while towns in Somalia's Puntland region have become the hub for many of their activities. Al Jazeera's Mohammed Adow sent this exclusive report.

Internationall law states that no country should use the boarders of any soveriegn country,which includes both sea &land! Those of you,who suffer under stupidity,the word soveriegn means independent,which Somalia is,since 1960. Any one who breaks this law,are in direct conflict against article 45 of the U-N boarder agreement. So what makes it ok therefore,all this ships to use Somali sea,with out paying associated cost,such as tax revenue? We both clearly know who the thiefs are-SO STOP STEALING

America needs to wake up &realize the true consequences of there involvement in somali polotics. How can they expect to fund Ethopian soldiers/government &local failed war-lord by the name Abdilaahi Yusuf &still hope for the best outcome. This American double standard policy is the root of all problems &EVIL.The only thing America understands is "how to give with one hand-and then take it back with the other"! The pirates have the right opinion! The US and other countries are trying to take away everything in Africa ASAP! I am a neutral guy but not because USA think they are the boss of the world so they could do anything they want!
The fisherman was so poor so he had only one way to make money! They have they right!

You still don't grasp the idea friend, just like you said every religion can be interpreted differently. Oh and for the somalis there is a reason why they do this, its because we have one of the best coasts in the world when it comes to tuna. Those pirates where once fishermen, who were forced into piracy. How would you feel if someone dumped their trash on your lawn and took fruits from your garden without your permission. Then when you try to ask them why they threaten your life.

See, America isn't perfect, but AT LEAST we CAN perfect our union and evolve out of bad ideas. Islamic countries, guided by islamic law cannot do this. Islam and Democracy don't mix very well. Turkey is the closest you get and that's not saying much. Religion aside, USA along with our allies has done more good than bad. Helping to stop Hitler was a gift to the world among many others.

I dont believe it was USA that wanted to stop Hitler. It was more like we were"forced" into fighting Hitler. We are not the "heroic" nation... we are just acting according to our self interest. And Russia was the one who crippled Germany with the cost of millions of their people.

Ah, but you forget a key element of Islam and all other religions. It's one thing to read the book, but what really matters is how you INTERPRET what you read. To these pirates, just as with Al Qaida terrorists, the term, "war" can be defined in many ways. What is war anyway? It could be conventional, economic, religious, etc. So these are the spoils of war. It's a war against the rich and privelaged, who, in this case, are the SAUDI muslims-yet another sin. Hey, I didn't write the book!
