Fred Astaire + Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal [short film]
BackFRED ASTAIRE in SMOOTH CRIMINAL Starring Fred Astaire, Cyd Charisse, Leslie Caron Choreographed by Michael Kidd 'Smooth Criminal' by Michael Jackson Video edited by CFJ I love both Astaire and Michael Jackson. I want young people to know Astaire stuff, that is why I made this. The video features scenes from the Girl Hunt ballet in The Band Wagon (1953) starring Astaire and Cyd Charisse (those supreme legs!! The most perfect body a woman could have. So sensual, so elegant), to which MJ gave homage in his Smooth Criminal vid (also in a performance of Get Happy on the Jacksons show in the 70s as well as You Rock My World in 2001), and, as an intro, a sequence from Daddy Long Legs (1955) featuring Leslie Caron (in motion pictures, you mustn't put a coin into a jukebox in an ordinary way!). My initial idea was using also Yolanda And The Thief (1945) where Astaire appeared with the same costume, a white suit, hat and a blue shirt, but I eventually omitted it. Michael Kidd worked with Janet in the Alright vid in 1990, featuring Cyd Charisse (in the red dress!), the Nicholas Brothers and Cab Calloway. If you want to see Astaire at the top of his game, watch his 30s and early 40s films (Ginger Rogers was not the best DANCE partner for him though. She was a great comedienne. The pair was more than just dance partners). This is what Fred Astaire said about Michael Jackson. You will see Fred loved Michael just as much as Michael loved him!
Oh, God! That boy moves in a very exceptional way. Thats the greatest dancer of the century. - Fred Astaire
I didnt want to leave this world without knowing who my descendant was. Thank you Michael!- Fred Astaire (shortly before his death)

Now I see why my daddy never liked MJ. He was never original. He was nothing but a theif, a swagger jacker. If the internet was as big in the 80s as it is now I could definately see him being "exposed" for stealing this and that like other artists of today are. I even thought he made up the moonwalk but he actually got that from Jeffrey Daniel from Shalamar but never credited him. He was nothing but a damn copy of Fred Astaire, James Brown and Jackie Wilson. He should be ashamed of himself.

You are so dumb. Michael Jackson was not a swagger jacker. He was inspired by Fred Astaire, James Brown, Gene Kelly and Jackie Wilson. He made SMOOTH CRIMINAL AS A TRIBUTE TO FRED ASTAIRE after he died! He dedicated his book MOONWALK to him too! Do your research.Michael didn't "steal" anything. He was inspired but he did most of the stuff by himself. He always says that he didn't create the moonwalk, it was called the backslide, look up MJ interviews before you try to talk shit about him.

Why are you calling me dumb? This is my opinion. I don't see any typos in my post or any misspelled words. So your post is right and mind is wrong? It just looks like we have to different opinions.
ITalkShitYaDig (Friday 28th of November 2008 09:44:35 PM)
And your post didn't correct anything I said. You said he didn't steal. I said he did. Does that change the fact that his stuff was similar to Fred Astaire's? NO! You said that he never said he didn't create the moonwalk. I said he never credited Jeffrey Daniel. HE NEVER CREDITED HIM. Rather he paid Jeffrey or not he still deserved to have his name out there for showing MJ his "trade mark" dance. I know all about MJ I don't need to look up shit. I'm just not licking his ass like you are.
