To me the song is a lyrical description of someone living in alignment with the negative principle of life -- hence the prominance of the dark side, vampires, suicide poems, voodoo, mystery, etc. The bit about churches, crosses, secret god, etc., suggests a relation to a kind of divine power inherent in the negative. Finally, the song seems to offer an ambivalent affirmation of that overall pattern of life; although the character is "fucked up," he also has a beauty, an edge and a charm. IMHO
