Opposition fighters gaining ground in Somalia - 31 Aug 08

Back

First they took Kismayo, a key port city, now they're making headway across southern Somalia. Opposition armed groups, including al-Shabab fighters and remnants of the Islamic Courts Union, are seizing control of the small southern town of Dhobley, near the Kenyan border. There's been a major comeback by Islamic groups in recent months and few in Somalia are complaining.

TaskiyahEmaani... You have to put religion aside if it is destroying your people n your country. Allah gave religion for good of human not for death n destruction like what is happening in Somalia, you have to put tribalism n religion aside but not abundon it.Also the problem is somalis need to understand eachother n work together despite their differences, people have differences and miss-understanding but you do not have to destroy a whole country for that small reason.

"Somalis needs to sit down n agree amongts themselves n put Religion & Tribalism aside" thats what they have been doing for more then 20 years. look where that brought them? women being raped, men taking qadht, children with wepons and constant fighting every where. religion is the ONLY thing that managed to bring peace to security our land, it did what the coward deomcoratic government couldnt do for more then 15years. you can bet every penny that we wont set "religion aside"

goldEye55 Somalis are tired of war and want to have peace. But i believe there are outside elements that have a huge interest on the status of Somalia and wheather or not it resolves its issues and are interfering with the Somali peace process. As you should there are ethnic Somalis in both Ethiopia and kenya and i guess they fear a united somalia and the consquences of it.

TrueSomaliWarya... Stop blaming other people for your own problem cos this gives you excuse to loose self confidence in yourself. If somalis worked together, solve their differences and put their country n people first and form a proper demoractic or a free government elected by the people then other outside ofrces will not get the opportunity to interfer, It is the somalis mess that give them weakness n gives outsiders strenth to interfer in their country.stop the fight n have peace.

Somalia is a Muslim country as such it should be ruled according to Shariah. Al-Shabab and their like have brought peace to our troubled land. International community should butt out of our business, dont think its Ethiopia acting on its own here, its only in Somalia because of American encouragement. Inshallah peace and stability will return to our homeland.

Few morons with guns have hijacked the country. The majority Somalis are the victims and are the ones who always get stuck in the middle (tribalism or America's-"terrorism in Horn of Africa"). The only time people actually pay attention to that country now is when some pirates hijack foreign merchant vessels and even then, the outside world can't do nothing. The more the world looks away the more these warlords/bandits get more embolden. Where's the ICC when you need them?
