Oops. I just copy and paste that comment on all of Sowell's stuff. He makes me sick. I wish Manning Marable got as much media attention as he does. Then again, Sowell says everything that rich, white people want to hear.

I don't think he is talking about race. Does he mention race in clip?

"Yessa massa, that's a right. My people's is lazy and shiftless so's yous shouldn't gives them moneys." "That's right Tom You're a good boy. You're not like them. Dance for us Tom. Shuffle your feet and sing the blues." "Shoo massa I's loves bein a house nigg*r. Eyes a good boy."

Thanks so much for posting this. I have read so many of Sowell's books and essays and have admired him for years, but I've never seen him speak before.

You are a weasel. Sowell is a profound intellectual, the premier expositor & developer of Hayekian social philosophy for the last two-and-a-half decades. Sowell is far from a "tool of the status quo." Indeed, he has long been a fierce critique of the Big Government status quo, adn of institutionalized cowardice in academia & government.

I think Sowell is correct here. However I will argue his last point. Being out of computer engineering for a while does not obsolete a person and make them have to start back at zero. As long as you are capable and understand the basics of things like design or debugging, you can get back up to speed very quickly. It's just a matter of learning a few new tools.

I agree with you to a degree, but I think saying that is is "just a matter of learning a few new tools" overly trivializes it. The entire landscape can change in 5 years, languages, operating systems, etc. can become obsolete. Yes, if you are a competent, intelligent developer you will be able to jump back in, but it may be very tough finding a job if you haven't kept up to speed somewhat during the hiatus.

"there is an intrinsic societal bias in favor of men," tell that to any man who's been stalked by a woman. you'll get laughed out of the room, deservedly.

Not sure what you're on about but the doing away with child support I'd deffo support. Seriously, it's a 'moral hazard' that like abortion (I'm pro choice but acknowledge facts) has led to MORE "fatherless" children precisely BECAUSE the state claims the right and the ability to both destroy fatherhood and yet make fathers pay for welfare. It's a loony system that has done immense damage and came directly from the Soviet Union's attempt to destroy the family.

And which part of the argument or facts did you disagree with?
