PEPCON Explosion

There were nine million pounds of Perchlorate stored there at the time of the fire, or 4.5 kilotons of perchlorate, not all of which exploded at once (a lot just burned).

Two people were killed - a worker in a wheelchair who was unable to evacuate the building quickly enough, and the man who stayed to call 911.

Yes 0.5 megaton + / -
FluffySquirrel (Tuesday 25th of November 2008 10:16:09 PM)
You are incorrect. The explosive yield was 1 kiloton.
arles230 (Wednesday 26th of November 2008 05:00:45 AM)
true, You're right: 0.5 Megaton would have destroyed half country! Is 1 kiloton.
aschuhart (Tuesday 2nd of December 2008 10:10:01 PM)
It was estimated equivalent to 250 tons of TNT. That's .25 of a kiloton (kiloton equaling 1,000 tons of TNT).
