I wouldn't say the Smiths... I'd say Joy Division or Interpol. These guys fall into the category of music my wife claims I listen to: "Droning Voice Music", LOL. But man, this is such a great song.

You came on your own, that's how you'll leave. The best album of 2007 in my opinion and Tom Smith is a brilliant lyricist. Can't wait for the new album.
