That was actually the most of liked Hvorostovksy; a lot of the time, he sounds overly covered, without the ability to inflict emotion into his sound, this sounded great.

I would very much appreciate to have about 10-15 seconds of applause after their singing, if only to gather my senses. As important to listen to voice, is also importaant to rest easily. Please do not cut out so quickly!!

He "shouts" very well, though, doesn't he?

No it makes my ears bleed

Apparently the best opera directors and conductors in the world have all bled until deafness, given Hvorostovsky's career. Why do you think they keep booking him? Sheer stupidity? But whatever, kid... keep looking for "technique" instead of art, and speaking so loosely about squilo, carry, resonance, legato, rhythm. That doesn't make you look knowledgeable, only snobbish.
IbranandoBaritone (Wednesday 22nd of October 2008 06:34:01 PM)
Clearly you're the one sounding snobbish. Hvorostovsky cannot express the true meaning of the music, looking at his lack of passion and interpretation. Its my opinion that he's terrible, im not the only one that would agree with that fact. Hvorostovsky is not art. Try a DFD for some art.

The fact that you don't realize that talent is not all these "bloodless directors and conductors" are looking for is what makes you look unknowledgeable of "the business." If roles were based on sheer talent, the Met stage would not be filled with the likes of Podles, but with talented, "no-name" singers. How do you think such a bad singer gets these huge roles? It's marketing - not talent.
IbranandoBaritone (Wednesday 22nd of October 2008 06:37:57 PM)
I would agree with you. Additionally, the conductors are giving the people what they want, they mostly want Hvorostovsky. If we look at the 19th century tenors were adored in Italy for the enormous sounds and high notes they made, this you could say is a parallel with the popularity of Hvorostovsky, given the rise in the popularity of the baritone voice.

Well don't argue with those idiots anyway, they only live in their own world and have no idea how music career of 21st century (well in this video is late 20th century) works. They think their "19th century rule" would be valid forever, which is NEVER gonna be true in ALL businesses. But I don't think such stupid kid would understand this logic.
