To me, it seems like Kim is singing to/about a brother figure. Maybe it's the photos of the young kid that help, but the song's sense of longing seems to be more about a friend than a lover. I always get sort a military feel from some of the lyrics. "metallic blue" in particular, and even the title, "golden blue". a "gold star" family is one who lost a child fighting in a war. (the "dead boy" lyric seems to fit that.) But then again, I have no idea. It's a beautiful song about a moment lost.
