I just returned from NYC on monday...what an amazing experience, myself and 3 friends stayed at the Jazz on Lennox Hostel in Harlem. We are 4 canadians and found it very safe, a fun and cheap way to travel. Met some amazing russians while staying there. We covered a lot of ground from friday until monday, yankees vs blue jays (the jays lost friday though), liberty, ground zero, sports hall of fame, brookyln bridge, time square, empire state, moma, UN, grand central, MSG and others...GO HERE!!!
