The spirit and optimism of this song reflects that of "The Greatest Generation" who survived The Great Depression, won WWII, and laid the foundation and framework for what was, until the absurd and asinine '60's, the greatest example of what men and women can do when common sense and hard work were the norm. They left us with their wonderful music, but I thank God they are not here to see the twisted wreck we have made of their once great society. Today we whine, "I can." Hell, they DID!

When I was a kid I used to go crazy trying to find this song and listen to it, however, a movie by the title of "Hope and Glory" (1987) has a portion of this song at the beginning that I fell in love with and I would look in the t.v. listings for when it would air on cable after renting it in the late 80's. Now thanks to this medium I can listen to all kinds of versions of it. I wish I had a 38 clean yellow Buick 6 Straight Special to roll with this masterpiece of music.
