Only the heavies on tenor took up the challenge. Coleman Hawkins, John Coltrane, Charlie Rouse who stayed with Monk the longest. The chair is just a supporting fsctor. With Monk it could have been a milk crate.

I don't see why everyone is getting so mad at him for just wishing the sax was in tune. Seriously, it just makes the recording sound better.
