The GOP base? That would be the evangelicals, the people who were spawned from the culture of the Ku Klux Klan. McCain is not a Maverick simply because he sucked up to the culture of the Klan right after calling them agents of division just so he could get elected. Had McCain been a man of conviction he might have had a chance. He blew it the same day he blew Jerry Falwell in exchange for being forgiven.
