uhhhh...it is about weed, a dutchie is also a common word for a Dutch style joint.

Have to agree with TripleJay.

True they were too young to sing about weed.

Never said this version wasn't paying homage. Nothing wrong with that. I am referring to the people stating this song is about cannabis. When this version clearly is not about cannabis. You can pay homage and still have a completely different meaning in your song. Something you are failing to comprehend here.

Yes, on the surface they certainly are. But the lyrics were altered in a way that those "in the know" still understood that Musical Youth were still, in a sense, paying homage to ganja. It functions as a double entendre and, thus, this version is not *just* about food.

Sorry. Please notify Leroy Hibbles and Jackie Mittoo that their memories of writing the song, and the Mighty Diamonds' recording it *in 1981* are in error. Clearly they're all confused, as are the ASCAP folks. And, yes, I know that "Dutchie" is Jamaican slang for a Dutch oven. I already commented on doctoring the lyrics to suit record execs. BTW, Google and Wikipedia can be your friend. Moron.
