Great artist, great song, great performance - and she makes sense in the interview too. But it was nearly ruined by the IDIOTIC French-speaking "whatever it was" during the interview. PJ Harvey speaking, and then this thing comes to try to make it all ridiculous. No offense to the French - and indeed how could you offend the French, they think they are the greatest anyway. Well, they didn't ruin her performance by butting in while she was singing and playing, kudos for that. Amazing restraint ;P

damn she's fucking amazing. white chalk is such a unique album. i had to listen it for sometime until i really got into it. Now i think its one of the best albums i ever bought!

Just because an artist denies being tortured, doesn't mean they're not. Most people, especially in the public eye, are affraid to show 'weakness.'

What really impresses me about her is how much sense she make when she talks about her music. I totally agree with her in that music should be about how the listener projects there thoughts and meaning onto the peice and not the other way around. She is a true artist and is doing what she was put on this earth too due.

LostInTranslation, no offense, but I think you're reading a bit too much in to it. I think she just wanted to write a pretty song about the place where she grew up with the primary instrument being piano to fit the album. That's what this song is. After all, Polly has said herself "The tortured artist myth is rampant".
