Microsoft DO accept consoles that have used the towel trick. I have sent in 2 consoles, one of which i used the towel trick for a month.... And by using the towel trick you are NOT voiding your warranty.. You only VIOD your warranty if you break the silver seals on the front and back of the case or modify the software/firmware in some way. So your friend must have either taken the console apart or modified the firmware or software... Because there is no way Microsoft would refuse otherwise.

dude i beat gears of war 2 shut down the xbox then i got the three rings for the first time and watched this video and by golly it works dunno for how long but it does thanks man

ye it does wrk mine only worked for 1 hr the first time but when i done it tha 2nd time it worked all day its only a temp fix 2 last u till u get a new 1!!!

My friend sent his in after doing this trick, they denied him a repair because they claimed, "it was tampered with". So, i'm just gonna send it in.
