Wonderful to see this again, as I was there when the Brabazon made that maiden flight. I lived not too far from Filton Airport and often saw the Barbazon fly overhead.

The Brabazon was designed for the top end of the market, so there was plenty of space per passenger. In retrospect it would have been better to cram in more seats and aim it more at the mass market.

Unfortunately we elected 5 Labour/Nu Labour Governments! They are more interested in re-distributing wealth than creating it in the first place.

Actually after WW2 Britain was broke and money for projects like these was hard to come by. Just think, rationing had ended in Germany long before it ended in the UK.

The UK is still broke, thanks to Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and the New Labour Government! The concept of the very large passenger aircraft was probably right, as later proved by the B747 and Airbus A380. At least the UK still had independent aircraft building companies in the 1940's and 1950's, plus a great deal of engineering expertise, which has been thrown away by successive governments of both colour. Now most of us earn peanuts working in the 'service' sector!
