I have to disagree. Both Tran and Brokeback were more than movies. They had meaning and teh academy shot them down. The only reason I can see is because they didn't want to have a gay year. Both were better than the movies they lost to.

That's not totally fair... I kinda liked Crash a bit better, personally, as far as Best Picture went that year... And I actually liked "The Deep" -almost- as much as this... Of course, "It's Hard Out There for a Pimp" won over both. The academy is as bigoted as the people in it who vote... And they tend to be very Liberal- but have insanely weird taste in movies.
