hey just out of curiosity, what is a swell? and whats the difference between a wave and swell? is a swell in more of a circular motion?

You're not considering how high the deck is to the water level. Could be 10-20decks depending on the ship. Imagine what that feels like on the lower decks just at water level. It sounds like the hull is going to snap in half. Not a great experience...this lasts for hours and even days.
