i remember seeing this in the cinema it was absolutly epic.

If I remember right, the sabers back then weighed about 20 pounds. Try having an old man use that while having an electrical cord running up your sleeve and down your robe and NOT make the cord seen during film. Prowse himself often complained of not being able to see out of his helmet well.

I mean how they fought generally. All the duels in the originals look like little kids playing with sticks

To continue my answer on number 1. After this fight, Anakin is more or less a zombie. No limbs equals no lightning. No lungs make breathing a chore. A cumbersome, rigid suit makes agility impossible. He is held on life support at all times with his suit. Palpatine made sure his prosthetics were terrible and snagged his suit when he moved. Anakin even thought of his new life as "This is not living."

1.)Obi-Wan had no intention of escaping the Death Star. He made himself present to Vader's sense in order to divert his attention from Leia's rescue. If he had won or escaped, the Empire would have made sure more than two TIE fighters pursued the Falcon and kept it from reaching Yavin 4.

The answer for number one is probably the lack of decent technology. Remember, episode 4 came out 31 years ago while episode 3 came out 3 years ago. The answer for number two is probably that Obi-Wan can't bear to kill Anakin. I guess he hoped that he would somehow survive which he did. I hope that this answers your questions.

The best duel in the saga ironically embodies some of the biggest inconsistencies of the SW franchise. 1. How come these guys were so kickass 30 years ago and in the episodes 4,5,6 they suck so much? Don't cite age as a reason, Dooku and Yoda were still kickass. 2. Why is Obi-wan letting Anakin writhe in agony and pain? Shouldn't he kill him to make sure and save his beloved former student from pain? Did he want him to suffer? But I thought that kind of thinking was Siththink?

also the longest battle, true fact. the speed of the battle is all real, no added effects, no sped up film. they practiced this one scene in particular for about 8 months.

Yeah, but he probably could have just managed a cho mai on Anakin. Hell, even a dual cho mai would have done the trick. There was no need to take out every limb except for the one wielding the lightsaber.
