I watched the video for the first time right before seing her in concert Wednesday night. Totally distured me, and kind of ruined the song for me- which I have ALWAYS loved. I don't feel that this video has anything at all to do with the music or lyrics. i think of it as more of a sensual saong. SHE is FANTASTIC in concert though!

I was looking up how everyone interpreted this song & my thought when i heard it was suicide... now i saw the video: my interpretation... they are 2 lovers that were going to shoot each other & both die... but he shot her and didn't shoot himself... he cheated her by killing her and not himself... now he is living with the fact that he couldn;t follow through... thats my twisted interpretation.

i heard this song on shrek 3 for the first time, i looked it up, and this is what came up. this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard! very emotional and sad!

The video might be kinda creepy in a way, but the song is good and the video showed it nicely. If you really think of it, there are people out there who are in this or had been in this kind of situation. Life can be cruel and bad things can happen anytime...whether we chose to or not.

he cheated on her and has caused her so much pain. she has wasted herself away, and has nothing left to give to him(hence the head). he wants her still but she resists because shes scared. (him struggling to get the string) she gives in and feels safe and at ease with her decision. he destroys her not by something that he did, but by something he didn't do. he didnt try to save her(from the kids with the slingshot) shes broken and unfixable. new interpretation. caught onto some new stuff. (:

also, the concept of the video is similar to this old french movie. i think it was called "The Red Balloon"? the balloon in that movie also gets popped by a slingshot. so idk how that ties in, haha. but i like your interpretation :)
