"I love Mammy". That's what Hattie herself said about it. I find her role an absolutely delight: cracking funny, in a heart-warming way, and dignified at the same time. (I suppose one sees in others what one sees in oneself...) There is absolutely nothing "degrading" about her role, unless one insists in watching the world through Po-Co glasses. And what a dull world it must be...!

George Clooney was bragging about the Academy honoring Hattie. I say Fuck the Academy back then and Now. Hattie wasn't able to attend the real Ocars ceremony. She has to come to one of the secondary events. And she couldn't be seated in the audience nor stay with the white people. So fuck you George Clooney with all your bull-shit. You're an ignorant fucked up typical white man. Hattie was treated like shit. So don't gloss over the evil of people in this horrible buisness of movies.

its enough to make you cry, for 1939 no matter how degradeing her part was, a(and it was) to win an ocar for it must have been overwelming. and she was amazing actress and she did a good job. and you can tell that she was moved, and for hollywood back then to acknowledge her back then is so amazing and beyond than any of us will ever know (at least if your younger than 70)

All actors stand on the shoulders of the people that came before them. Without pioneers like Hattie McDaniel there'd be no black stars in the main stream like Angela Bassett or Halle Berry

Exactly!, She should not have accepted the awawd. I mean, the woman had to eat so I don't blame her that much for playing the rolles she played but to be "thankful"?? WTF she wasn't even allowed to attend the premier in atlanta. Fuck them.
