XPTs & freights Cootamundra, Jindalee & Galong

Back

Scenes along the Main South, NSW: on 22 December 2004, in the days when Cootamundra boasted manned signal boxes and impressive semaphore signal gantries, a freight train waits to leave for the north while another heads south and a light engine arrives. L271, the lead loco on the freight, fails, leaving EL57, the trailing loco, to make do. The Melbourne bound XPT winds through the hills at Jindalee, north of Cootamundra. In a hot wind south of Galong the Sydney XPT precedes the freight seen earlier, hauled by a labouring lone EL57.

Wow! That must've been tricky to film that XPT!
